"One of the most brilliant Baroque portraits" is Frans Hals' Laughing Cavalier (1624), part of the Wallace Collection in London. In 1872-1875, shortly after its arrival in England, the artwork was exhibited in the opening exhibition at the Bethnal Green Museum, where it was regularly reproduced as a print, and became one of the best-known paintings of old masters in Britain. While the unknown subject isn't laughing, he does have an enigmatic smile that's accentuated by his upturned moustache2021г..jpg

The original "The Penitent Saint Peter" or "Saint Peter in Penitence" is a work of art by Jusepe de Ribera from 1630s, displayed at Mexico's Museo Soumaya.

Christ's Charge to Peter (c. 1616) by Peter Paul Rubens is part of the Wallace Collection in London. The biblical quotation from Saint John's Gospel, in which Christ commanded Peter to 'Feed my sheep' (XXI, 15-17), and the story of Christ offering Peter the keys to the kingdom of heaven in Saint Matthew's Gospel (XVI, 13-19) are conflated in this passage by Rubens. It was a rare combination of subjects, though Raphael used it on the Tapestries of the Sistine Chapel at Saint Peter's, Rome. It was commissioned c.1613–1615 for Nicholas Damant's tomb in the church of Saint Gudule, Brussels. The picture remained in Saint Gudule until sold by the church in 1800. During the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, it was engraved at least five times.
